Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy in NYC

Psychedelic assisted psychotherapies offer new and unique opportunities to enhance progress in therapy and treat anxiety, depression, and trauma, among other mental health conditions.

If you feel that you have tried ‘everything’ to alleviate emotional pain or ongoing struggles with your mental health and have yet to experience significant improvement in your suffering, Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) may be able to provide lasting relief.

Ketamine is a legal and safe dissociative anesthetic medication that is currently used for general anesthesia in surgery for children and adults. Research indicates that a subanesthetic dose of ketamine can effectively treat a variety of mental health conditions.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in NYC is a powerful psychotherapeutic process that can accelerate improvement and healing for depression, anxiety, trauma, and other conditions. The availability of KAP offers new hope for those who feel traditional psychotherapy and psychopharmacology interventions have failed them.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy can disrupt painful patterns rooted in trauma, anxiety, and depression and help clients tap into their inner strength and affect rapid and sustainable healing and growth. The medication has intrinsic anti-depressant effects, and also facilitates increased neuroplasticity, or the ability to form new brain connections.

Ketamine Therapy fosters cognitive flexibility which can allow us to experience expansion of our consciousness and current ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to ourselves and others. These mechanisms can help us rewire deeply rooted patterns and beliefs that no longer serve us.

What is ketamine assisted psychotherapy?

Dr. Rachel Montoni offers ketamine therapy in New York City

I provide Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in

NYC in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical

Please see below to learn more about Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy at Align Therapy:

  • Prior to beginning ketamine assisted psychotherapy, clients attend an intake session, and to follow, will meet with a medical provider from Journey Clinical for a comprehensive medical/psychiatric assessment and screening. The Journey Clinical medical provider prescribes medication and conducts medical follow-up for clients eligible to participate in KAP.

While treatment is always tailored to each client’s unique needs, treatment plans typically involve several preparation sessions prior to beginning ketamine dosing sessions, and several integration (processing) sessions between each ketamine dosing session.

During integration sessions, we will process the thoughts, insights, feelings, memories, etc., that arose during and after your dosing session, and prepare for the next dosing session.

During ketamine dosing sessions, the medication is self-administered via sublingual lozenge in a virtual therapy session. Each ketamine dosing session lasts approximately 2-3 hours, while preparation and integration sessions are 50 minutes in duration

  • Your treatment process is uniquely yours and I work collaboratively with each of my clients to determine frequency and number of KAP sessions according to your needs and responses to treatment. While there is no “one size fits all” in KAP, typical treatment trajectories often include approximately 6 ketamine dosing sessions.

Ketamine dosing sessions are done concurrently with therapy via accompanying integration sessions. If you are currently working with a primary therapist, I am happy to work collaboratively with them as a member of your team.

    • Intake, preparation, and integration sessions (50 minutes): $300 per session.

    • Ketamine dosing sessions (2-3 hours): $850 per session.

    Journey Clinical Medical Costs:

    • Comprehensive medical/psychiatric assessment with Journey Clinical: $250

    • Follow-up medical sessions: $150/session (minimum of 1 session per quarter)

    • Cost of ketamine Lozenges: $75 for approximately 4-6 lozenges (not covered by insurance)

  • Ketamine assisted psychotherapy and the associated Journey Clinical medical costs are not explicitly covered by insurance, however, sessions may be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement. Billing documentation in the form of Superbills is provided to clients to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Out-of-network reimbursement rates vary by health insurance plan.
